Holi is the festival of colours that symbolically signify the triumph of good over evil. It calls for celebrations, get-together, lots of food and fun and most importantly the ritual of colouring your loved ones!  However, gone are the days where pure Holi colours were used! Now, it is all about dark colours filled with toxic chemicals that are harmful to the skin and dangerous for the eyes, lips and nails. So, here are five pre-Holi skin-care tips to keep in mind before you indulge in being a part of any celebration!

  1. Indulge In Lots Of Moisturizing

Moisturizing is the key to protecting your skin from dangerous colours. The first step is to deeply moisturize your skin with a thick skin moisturizer or use virgin coconut oil and generously dip your skin in it! The layer of the product will act as a barrier between your skin and the colours and will also ensure that the removal of colours is easy.

  1. Dip Yourself In Sunscreen

Sunscreen is your skin’s best friend! Since Holi is a festival celebrated outside, one cannot get away from the sun. Once your moisturizer has completely been absorbed into your skin, engage in using a sunscreen with an SPF of above 30 and apply it all over your face and body. The key to a successful sunscreen application is to apply it every 2-3 hours to make sure that your skin is constantly protected.

  1. Cover Up Your Body

The easiest way to protect your skin from Holi colours is to cover up your whole body! While it is tempting to jump into a pair of shorts and tank tops, it isn’t a wise idea to have your skin exposed during Holi celebrations. The best idea is to wear a dark-colored full-sleeve t-shirt and full-pants topped with a cotton scarf to possibly cover your neck and face. Always remember to choose cotton fabric over any other material since it allows your skin to breathe and absorbs colours and sweat!

  1. Hello Hydration

It is crucial to keep your body hydrated with a high dose of intake of liquids. Amidst all the celebrations, most of us tend to forget sipping on water and juices. It is important to keep the body doused with nourishing liquids like coconut water, lime juice, fresh juices and water. The more hydrated your skin is, the fresher you’ll feel and the younger you’ll look.

  1. Take Care Of Your Eyes, Ears, Lips & Nails

Skin-care is important but so is taking care of your eyes, ears, lips and nails. In order to protect your eyes from Holi colours, you can wear dark shades; for your ears – use a cotton scarf or stuff your ears with tiny cotton buds; for your lips – dab a generous layer of Vaseline and for your nails, you can cut them short for the festival and also soak it with coconut oil to avoid the colours absorbing into the corners.
