The liver is one of the most important organs of the human body. It is large in size, meaty in look, rubbery in texture and is located on the right side of the belly. Protected within the rib cage, the liver has two sections – the right and left lobes. Additionally, with the gall bladder sitting right under the liver accompanied by the pancreas and intestines, all of them work in sync to digest and process the food we eat! As for the liver, its main duty is to filter the blood and pass it onto the rest of the body. Likewise, it also secretes bile, detoxifies chemicals and generates proteins that are important for blood clotting & other functions of the body.
Thus, to celebrate the importance and spread awareness about organ and liver-related diseases, 19th April is considered as World Liver Day. It is imperative for each one of us to understand the role and function that the liver plays in the human body. Additionally, one needs to be abreast of all the liver diseases, their causes, symptoms, preventions and cures – just in case you or your loved one suffering from the same.
